Everything we do at Burton started in the mountains. From getting the most out of every journey to chasing snow around the globe, we’ve charged ahead to innovate and change the way people enjoy the outdoors since day one.

In 1977, Jake Burton Carpenter founded Burton Snowboards out of his Vermont barn. Since then, Burton has fueled the growth of snowboarding worldwide through its groundbreaking product lines, its team of top snowboarders and its grassroots efforts to get the sport accepted at resorts. In 1996, Burton began growing its family of brands to include boardsports and apparel brands. Privately held and owned by Jake, Burton’s headquarters are in Burlington, Vermont with offices in California, Austria, Japan and Australia.

Meet JakeMeet Jake

Jake Burton Carpenter founded Burton Snowboards out of his Vermont barn back in 1977, and has dedicated his life to snowboarding ever since. Burton served a pivotal role in growing snowboarding from a backyard hobby to a world-class sport by creating groundbreaking products, supporting the world’s best riders, and pushing more resorts to allow snowboarding.

The Team

The Burton Team’s work embodies the Burton life. Yes, they’re world champions, innovators and leaders in the sport, but they’re also the perfect ambassadors for all things Burton. Providing crucial feedback on all our products while traveling the globe, they’re our experts at making the most out of every day. – Our Team Riders

Craig’s

Craig’s Prototype Facility represents Burton’s investment in R&D. This 10,000 square-foot facility houses the best of Burton’s high-end, custom-built machinery. Although capable of producing thousands of snowboards, Craig’s is dedicated to R&D and only produces a limited run of boards each season that we call the Backyard Project. – Read More

Learn To Ride

Get the whole family snowboarding together this winter at a Burton Learn to Ride Center. Learn to Ride programs for Adults feature small student-to-teacher ratios, and with Burton’s LTR line of rental product, it’s easier than ever to learn and have fun on the mountain. – Learn More

Technology & Innovation

Our product developers always strive to keep pushing toward the next technical evolution. To get there we use a state-of-the-art facility in our own backyard and work with our world-class team around the globe. – Learn More

40 Years Forward

Honor the past, celebrate the future. That’s how we’ve done it since 1977. Over those last 40 years we’ve learned a lot, and put that knowledge into everything we do—from the shapes of our boards to the linings in our jackets. We didn’t do it to be cool. We found a need for it, tested it, and made it. Build, rebuild, respect, progress. It’s what we do.

Sustainability: Burton’s Stance

Our commitment is to make Burton as respected for our environmental and social impact as we are for our products. In doing so, we will help make the sport we pioneered – and our lifestyle – sustainable well into the future

Our People

Burton is family owned and it shows. From inside the walls of our headquarters, to our global partners producing goods and sharing the lifestyle, everyone matters. We have focused on our people from day one at Burton with an innovative, sustainable culture.

Employees & Community

Our efforts are not only within our own walls, but include the people that we impact all over the world. We aim to not only have all our factories meet our high international human rights and responsibility standards, but to impact everyone around us as positively as possible. – Read More

Sustainable Culture

Our culture is our foundation, and we’ve fostered a sustainable culture since day one. With dogs in the office, organic garden plots for employees, free local organic kombucha on tap, skate ramps, free DIY classes, flexible schedules, and closing the office on powder days, we always make sure we take care of our people.

Women’s LeadershipBurton Substainability

Burton has been a leader in empowering women in our workplace and industry for decades, led by our co-founder and CEO Donna Carpenter. We have women’s leadership development events throughout the year, women’s specific ride days, and a leadership group that meets monthly to make sure we’re constantly improving our efforts around supporting and growing women.

CHILL Non-Profit and Donations

We donate extraordinary amounts of product to the people that need it most. In 2014, we donated over a million dollars’ worth of product to our large Vermont refugee population to keep them warm in winter, to underserved LGBTQ youth in New York City, previously incarcerated women, and youth in need throughout the state of Vermont.

Social Responsibility

We have a strict Social Responsibility Policy and Code of Conduct Policy based on the United Nations International Labor Organization (ILO) standards in which we enforce across our entire finished good factory supply base. All of our finished goods factories have now been audited and we are currently working on our raw materials suppliers to ensure that 100% of them have agreed to our standards and are inspected regularly to ensure that they meet these standards.
